Representative Work

Sigurd brings a proactive approach to all of his files and solves client's problems through the best available means which include mediation, litigation, and other progressive approaches with a view to achieve the best resolution for his clients. Sigurd has particular interest in and has practiced in the following areas:

  • Construction Litigation acting on behalf of design professionals, consultants, and contractors in a wide variety of claims from building construction, infrastructure, and large oilfield related claims.
  • Corporate and Commercial Litigation covering all aspects of this area.
  • General Liability Claims defending all aspects of these claims as they arise under a general liability policy of insurance. 
  • Administrative Claims including appearances before the Alberta Labour Board, the Workers' Compensation Board, and professional regulatory bodies. 
  • Extensive work in the area of insurance fraud and first party claims for insurers.

Profile

Sigurd has made representations to all level of Courts in Alberta, and many other Canadian Provinces. Sigurd has also appeared before a number of Administrative Tribunals. Sigurd's claims are often multi-party and complex construction or oilfield related loses and Sigurd's previous background with his work in the energy sector saw him work in the exploration and construction aspects of the oil fields of Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, and extensive work in the Northwest Territories. This experience included all aspects of construction of pipelines, plant sites, roads, and all matters relating to bringing oil fields on stream.

Sigurd is a mentor to law students through the pro bono program at the University of Alberta. He is also a board member of the Edmonton Bar Association. Sigurd is also a current member of the firm's Management Committee and the Client Development Committee. Sigurd is also a member of the Bar of the Northwest Territories and of the Territory of Nunavut.
